The main objective of this ultra-endurance race is to make Penang famous as a world recognized individual ultra-running and the longest relay runner’s state. This event is unique in the sense promoting a healthy living through running, it also introduces Penang’s world heritage sites as well as the inner scenic beauty of the island.

We are proud to bring you a 79km Round Island individual ultramarathon and 79km Relay a Team of 2 on 39.5km. Thus comprises 9 categories, that is Men Open, Men Junior Veteran, Men Senior Veteran, Women Open, Women Junior Veteran, Women Senior Veteran, Team of 2 Men Open, Team of 2 Women Open & Team of 2 Mix Open.

The 79km Ultra Marathon and Team of 2 Relay starts from the Esplanade, Jalan Padang Kota Lama and goes through the Unesco World Heritage Sites, Georgetown. Come and venture into the beautiful night view of the 1st Penang Bridge, and Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, passing through the many charming landmarks of Penang Island.

You shall pass 7 checkpoints along the route before finishing your race also at Esplanade, Jalan Padang Kota Lama.

Race Participant

The race is open to all men and women of all nationalities aged 18 years and above on race day.

Runners DO NOT need to complete any road race prior to joining this event. However, the organizers would like to caution all participants that an ultramarathon is not easy, and recommends that you should have completed some long-distance road races in order to be well prepared for this event.

Race Format

The 79km Ultra Marathon and Team of 2 Relay starts from the Esplanade, Jalan Padang Kota Lama and goes through the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Georgetown. Normal and flat tarmac road with the mixture of bicycle lane. Will also cross tarmac and cement road from Persiaran Karpal Singh all the way till 1st Penang Bridge.

1st Penang Bridege to Entrance to SMK Batu Maung
Continue the bicycle lane and inner road and follow by flat tarmac road, the view of Penang Bridge and Penang Second Bridge on you left. Will pass thru Penang Industrial Zone by your right and also pass under 2nd Penang Bridge until you reach the CP2.

Still flat and little bumpy road. You will get to see the Penang International Airport at your right. This route is the route before you reach to climb of the Genting Hill.

After changing baton for Relay category/Solo just move on, this part is the climax part. You will go for flat route before climbing to “Bukit 800”, the highest point of the race. Please load proper intake at this CP because you have long KM to go to the peak.

Rules & Regulations

STARTING TIME AND PLACE FOR ALL CATEGORIES
Time : 9.00 pm
Place : Jalan Padang Kota Lama, Esplanade, Penang

  1. RACE BIBS
    1. Only one (1) piece of run race bib will be issued and it must be pinned at all four corners and MUST be worn on the chest and visible from a distance by the route marshals, and race officials.
    2. Race bibs must be visible at all times on the outside of clothing (front of the body). Do not modify, cut or fold the race bib.
    3. Do not deface the race bibs with stickers, markers or any writing.
    4. Participants using race bibs other than the one assigned to them would be disqualified.
    5. Details of the participant will be in the bibs and will be useful to the Organisers in case of emergencies.
    6. Bib numbers are not transferable. Participants found guilty of transferring their bib numbers will be disqualified.
    7. Participants who have been mistakenly issued Race bib of the wrong category are required to bring it to the attention of the Registration Officials at the Race Secretariat.
  2. PARKING AREAS
    Due to limited parking areas you are requested to come in car pool. The Organisers are unable to provide parking area for the participants.
  3. BAGGAGE FACILITIES
    Baggage facilities are provided at the baggage tent.
  4. TOILET
    1. There will be 2 mobile toilets at the Start and Finish.
    2. Mobile toilets will be placed at all the check points.
  5. ROUTE
    START AND FINISH at Jalan Padang Kota Lama, Esplanade Pulau Pinang.

Start - at Jalan Padang Kota Lama proceed to Lebuh Light, Jalan Pangkalan Weld, Express Way Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu,(Bicycle Lane), Queens Bay, Penang Industrial Zone until 2nd. Bridge Batu Maung, Permatang Damar Laut, Bayan Lepas, Teluk Kumbar, Balik Pulau, Teluk Bahang, Batu Ferringhi, Tanjung Bungah, Persiaran Gurney (Foot Path ) Jalan Sultan Ahmad Shah, Lebuh Farquhar, Lebuh Light, Finish - Jalan Padang Kota Lama. A total of 79 km. Keep to the left side of the route.

    1. Directional arrows will be positioned to guide the participants The Police will be on duty to control the traffic movements.
    2. Failure to keep to the correct route or failure to obey directionsl signs may result in your disqualification.
    3. Runners leaving the route without any official permission will be disqualified.

  2. MAGNETIC CARPET CHECK POINTS
    1. Your progress in the race will be monitored by timing chips.
    2. Your time and bib number will registered when you step on the magnet carpet as you run along the route.

  4. MEDICAL ASSISTANCE
    1. Runners who do not feel good or are unwell should immediately retire from the race and seek medical assistance from the First Aides.
    2. Runners who are injured or are not well and are advised by the First Aides not to continue with the race must strictly follow their instructions.
    3. First Aides will be on motor bikes along the route.
    4. If a runner is unable to continue with the race, or is critically ill should stop immediately and hand over your run number to the FIRST AIDERS or Race Marshalls and seek their help to get to the nearest hospital.
    5. A medical bay will be set-up at the Start / Finish
  5. GROUP PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE POLICY
    All Participants, Officials and Helpers will be covered by Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy and Liability Insurance.
  6. FINISHER MEDALS AND FINISHER TEE SHIRT
    1. Upon completing the race successfully please collect your finisher medal and the Finishers’ tee shirt from the respective booth.
    2. The e-certificate will be made available online a day or two after the event.

  7. AGE VERIFICATION
    If required by the Race Referee for age verification purposes the winners MUST produce their Mykad (Malaysians) or Passports (Foreigners) to the Race Secretariat before collecting their prizes. Failure to do so will result in disqualification of the winner.

  8. DETERMINATION OF WINNERS
    1. All runners should pass through all the check points. Failure to do so will be disqualified.
    2. Any protest with regards to the results of the race should be made within 30 minutes of the official announcement in writing with a deposit of RM 300.00 to the Race Director
    3. If the protest is invalid the deposit will be forfeited by the Organiser.

  10. PRIZE GIVING CEREMONY
    The prize giving ceremony will commence at 10. 00 am.
  11. CUT-OFF TIME
    1. All runners must pass the half-way point C.P 4 by 4.00 am. If you don’t then you will be stopped at the half way point and asked to board the bus to bring you back to the Finish
    2. All participants must finish the race by 15 hours.
  12. SWEEPER BUS
    1. A sweeper bus will follow the end runner to pick-up anyone who voluntarily gives up the race.
    2. Any participant who in the opinion of the Race Official will not be able to finish the race within the 15 hours after the half-way point will also be asked to stop the race and board the bus.
    3. If you choose not to board the bus you will be running at your own risk.
    4. The Race Organisers seek your co-operation on the above matter.
