The main objective of this ultra-endurance race is to make Penang famous as a world recognized individual ultra-running and the longest relay runner’s state. This event is unique in the sense promoting a healthy living through running, it also introduces Penang’s world heritage sites as well as the inner scenic beauty of the island.

We are proud to bring you a 79km Round Island individual ultramarathon and 79km Relay a Team of 2 on 39.5km. Thus comprises 8 categories, that is Men Open, Men Junior Veteran, Men Senior Veteran, Women Open, Women Junior Veteran, Women Senior Veteran, Team of 2 Men Open, Team of 2 Women Open & Team of 2 Mix Open.

The 79km Ultra Marathon and Team of 2 Relay starts from the Esplanade, Jalan Padang Kota Lama and goes through the Unesco World Heritage Sites, Georgetown. Come and venture into the beautiful night view of the 1st Penang Bridge, and Sultan Abdul Halim Muadzam Shah Bridge, passing through the many charming landmarks of Penang Island.

For Relay Team, 1st runner will start from Esplanade, Jalan Padang Kota and switching to second runner will be at designated CP in Balik Pulau. Transportation mode for Relay Team will be updated soon!

You shall pass 7 checkpoints along the route before finishing your race also at Esplanade, Jalan Padang Kota Lama.

Race Participant

The race is open to all men and women of all nationalities aged 18 years and above on race day.

Runners DO NOT need to complete any road race prior to joining this event. However, the organizers would like to caution all participants that an ultramarathon is not easy, and recommends that you should have completed some long-distance road races in order to be well prepared for this event.

Race Format

The 79km Ultra Marathon and Team of 2 Relay starts from the Esplanade, Jalan Padang Kota Lama and goes through the UNESCO World Heritage Sites, Georgetown. Continue the bicycle lane and inner road and follow by flat tarmac road, the view of Penang Bridge and Penang Second Bridge on you left. Will pass thru Penang Industrial Zone by your right and also pass under 2nd Penang Bridge until you reach the CP2.

Still flat and little bumpy road. You will get to see the Penang International Airport at your right. This route is the route before you reach to climb of the Genting Hill.

After changing baton for Relay category/Solo just move on, this part is the climax part. You will go for flat route before climbing to “Bukit 800”, the highest point of the race. Please load proper intake at this CP because you have long KM to go to the peak.

Rules & Regulations

  1. All participants must be fully vaccinated. Any participant found not fully vaccinated will be disqualified on the spot. Participants are encouraged to test their self with Covid RTK kits before reporting to the race pack collection center.
  2. Participants must complete the set course on foot by their own power and ability within the stipulated cut off time.
  3. Participants are required to be semi self-sufficient and should carry the mandatory gears or equipment at all times during the race. All participants are required to check-in one hour before the start time. Headlamps/Flashlights, mobile phone and reflective light are required and must be presented upon check-in. Random gear checks may be performed during the event as well. Any participant found without the mandatory gear will incur a penalty ranging from a time penalty of minimum 30 minutes to disqualification based on the severity of the breach.
  4. Support crews, support vehicles, pacers or any outside assistance is not permitted. Pacing of runners via any means such as wheeled devices or non-participants pacing/running alongside is strictly prohibited. Violation of this rule will result in immediate disqualification. There is, however, no restriction on participants in buying food/drinks from the shops, restaurants, hawkers and vending machines along the route.
  5. Participants must check or sign in at all checkpoints (CP) with the checkpoint officials along the route. Participant’s arrival times will be recorded. Failure to do so will mean the participant has not completed the full race course and will therefore be disqualified.
  6. Participants who accept any assistance from any person or external sources may be disqualified.
  7. Drop bags – Not provided
  8. Race bib must be visible at all times on the outside of clothing (front of the body). Do not modify, cut or fold the race bib. Do not deface running numbers with stickers, markers, or any writing.
  9. Participants must follow the directions given by the race organizer during the race briefing. Participants must obey directions of race marshals or officials at all times. In particular if you miss any cut-off times you must withdraw from the race as instructed.
  10. Any participant who withdraws from the event must sign the withdrawal form at the closest checkpoint. This is to be attended by checkpoint officials (unless the aforementioned is assisted from the course by first aid crews).
  11. In the event where any participant requires first aid help on course, he/she must use the inscribed phone numbers on the bib to contact the event organisers. We will make every effort to retrieve you.
  12. Littering is strictly prohibited. No water cups will be dispensed to participants. Participants are required to bring their own water bottle or hydration pack which will be refilled at every aid station. Participants, crews and staffs must not litter, mar, or pollute the landscape or environment. Any participant found littering will incur a time penalty at the organiser’s discretion. Penalty may involve disqualification, depending on the severity of the breach. Please help us to promote Cleaner, Greener and Healthier Penang.
  13. Breaking any of the rules may incur a time penalty or disqualification. Any such penalties are at the organisers’ discretion and are final.
  14. Participants are responsible to ensure their own safety and that of others. Participants must always be single file, on the far left side of the road or off the left side of the road. Be considerate to other hill and road users at all times. Take great care when crossing or running on roads. If any other participant is injured or in distress, please provide assistance.
  15. POTOUR 2022 has its own public liability insurance.
  16. The organisers reserve the right to make changes to the Event Rules, route and/or other arrangements as they deem appropriate, to cancel and to postpone or reschedule the event date to a later date.
  17. Cheating is absolutely abhorred. These will be duly disqualified.
  18. All participants, crew and staff must display courtesy, good taste, decorum, and sportsmanship at all times. Nudity is specifically not allowed.
