Objectives:
In conjunction with International Gaucher Disease Day 2023 (1 Oct 2023), Malaysia Lysosomal Diseases Association (MLDA) will be organising our 2nd Ride & Run with Hope in Kluang together with the Persatuan Lumba Basikal Negeri Sembilan, Lions Club of Kluang Host, Lions Club of Kluang Mandarin, Lions Club of Kluang 4WD, Lions Club of Kahang & défi Kluang Cycling Team.

Join us on September 30th for Kluang's Ride & Run With Hope, a fun and exciting fundraising event that's dedicated to raising awareness for Lysosomal Storage Disease (LSD) in conjunction with International Gaucher Disease Day.

Not only will you have a great time riding through some of the most scenic parts of Kluang, but you'll also have the opportunity to make a positive impact by helping us raise funds for LSD research and support.

This year's route includes rolling hills and a total elevation of about 700 meters, making it the perfect choice for riders who are looking for a challenging and exhilarating experience. But don't worry if you're not up for the full challenge - there will be rest stops along the way and plenty of opportunities to take it at your own pace.

We're seeking sponsorship for the prizes of our lucky draw, and we'll have plenty of other activities and resources available to help you learn more about LSD and how you can get involved. Food, drinks, and entertainment will also be provided, making this event more fun than ever!

We encourage participants of all ages and skill levels to join us in this important cause. Whether you're an experienced cyclist, runner or just looking for a fun day out with friends and family, you can help us make a difference and raise awareness for lysosomal storage disease.

So come out and join us on September 30th for Kluang's Ride & Run With Hope. Together, we can ride & run for Hope and support those living with LSD. Let's have a great time while making a difference for a worthy cause!

About HOPE the Mascot for Muscular Dystrophy.

Sloth, a mammal known for its slow movements due to its slow metabolism, is similar to many of our LSD patients who struggle with muscular dystrophy. As a way to raise awareness for rare diseases and support those living with these conditions, a sloth plushie named "HOPE" is available for purchase. Participants in this event can bring HOPE along for the ride or run and show their support for this important cause.

The President of the Malaysian Lysosomal Diseases Association (MLDA), Ir Lee Yee Seng, participated in the longest cycling event, covering 1,200 km in Paris-Brest-Paris (PBP) on August 18th, 2019. The main objective of PBP was to raise public, media, and government awareness about LSD diseases and highlight the urgent need for continuous funding support to prevent deaths resulting from delayed treatment for LSD disease patients in Malaysia. During this event, HOPE rode piggyback with Ir Lee, serving as a symbol of hope for those affected by LSD diseases.

Additionally, this year, in August 2023, Ir Lee Yee Seng plans to lead his Friend’s of Hope team once again in the Paris-Brest-Paris challenge for a fund-raising event. This event will serve as an opportunity to raise awareness about LSD diseases in Malaysia and to gather funding support for those who are affected by these conditions. By continuing to participate in events like these, we can work together to make a positive impact and improve the lives of LSD disease patients.

About International Gaucher Disease Day

International Gaucher Disease Day is an annual event that takes place on October 1st. The day is dedicated to raising awareness and understanding of Gaucher disease, which is a type from LSD family, a rare genetic disorder that affects the body's ability to break down certain types of fat.

Gaucher disease is caused by a deficiency of an enzyme called glucocerebrosidase, which leads to the buildup of harmful substances in the body's organs, tissues, and bone marrow. The disease can cause a wide range of symptoms, including anemia, bone pain, fatigue, liver and spleen enlargement, and neurological problems.

International Gaucher Disease Day was established to promote greater awareness of the disease and its impact on patients and their families, as well as to advocate for better treatments and support for those affected by the disease. The day is recognized around the world and is celebrated with various events and activities, including educational programs, fundraising events, and community outreach efforts.

The theme of International Gaucher Disease Day varies each year, but it always emphasizes the importance of raising awareness and supporting the Gaucher disease community. The day is an opportunity to come together and make a difference, and to show solidarity with those who are affected by this rare and challenging disease.
