Route 68 Ultra 2020

We are proud to announce the 6th edition of Route 68 Ultra for 2020. This race course traverses through the beautiful and scenic landscape of remote Gombak. The route will start and end at an orang asli settlement, winding through hilly roads surrounded by lush green forests - promising to bring you some of the most unique ultramarathon race experience. Runners challenging this exciting new road race will come face to face against a formidable route with an elevation gain of 1,900 m and a competitive cut off time.

The race is open to all men and women of all nationalities aged 18 years and above on race day.

Runners DO NOT need to complete any road race prior to joining this event. However, the organizers would like to caution all participants that an ultramarathon is not easy, and recommends that you should have completed some long distance road races in order to be well prepared for this event.​
All runners will start and finish at Dewan Serbaguna Komuniti Orang Asli (Orang Asli Community Multi Purpose Hall) at Km. 24 Gombak.

202KM PARTICIPANTS
Participants of the 202km category will do 2 loops of the entire race course of 100km. A single 100km loop will cover 4 waterstations before U-turning at waterstation located in The Waterway Villa, covering approximately 100km one way. At The Waterway Villa station you will be allowed access to your drop bag. You will then take the same route back towards the Multi Purpose Hall before heading out for the second loop. You have access to your second drop bag at Multi Purpose Hall event site. Total elevation for 202km runners is about 4000m+ gain.

168KM PARTICIPANTS
Participants of the 168km category will do 2 loops of the entire race course of 84km. A single 84km loop will cover 4 waterstations before U-turning at waterstation located in The Waterway Villa, covering approximately 42km one way. At The Waterway Villa station you will be allowed access to your drop bag. You will then take the same route back towards the Multi Purpose Hall before heading out for the second loop. You have access to your second drop bag at Multi Purpose Hall event site. Total elevation for 168km runners is about 4000m gain.

100KM PARTICIPANTS
You will be participating in a brand new distance for 2019 replacing the previously very popular 84km category. You'll make your way through 4 waterstations before U-turning at waterstation A8 located in The Waterway Villa, covering approximately 40km one way. You will then take the same route back towards and turn into janda baik and back to genting sempah toward to the gombak Multi Purpose Hall and finish the race there. Total elevation for 100km runners is about 2000m+ gain.

50KM PARTICIPANTS
You will be making your way through 3 waterstations before U-turning at waterstation A5, covering approximately 25km one way. You will then take the same route back towards the Multi Purpose Hall and finish the race there. Total elevation for 50km runners is about 1600m gain.

You have to cross the finish line within your respective categories' cut off time to be a finisher of the race

    ​All runners must carry all mandatory gears at all times. The organizers and volunteers have the right to perform random gear checks on any participants at any point of the race. Should a runner be found without the possession of a mandatory gear, he/she will not be allowed to continue on the course until a suitable replacement gear is found.​​

​​ We urge all participants to use this bus transport service as we expect heavy build-up of traffic on race day due to:
  • Single lane roads leading into race site
  • Parking spaces limited to approximately 50-100 cars at the site
Kindly note that the bus leaves the race site back to NU Sentral once it fills up and departure time may vary with the crowd we have this year. Do check with the Race Secretariat counter for update on departure times during race day.

How to use GPS RunTracker?

Please ensure that the device have line of sight to the open sky for accurate detection. You are advised to put the tracker as high up as possible on your shoulder. DO NOT block the device by placing it in concealed bag.

How do I get my GPS RunTracker?

  • GPS RunTracker is only available to all categories.
  • You can rent GPS RunTracker for RM80 (exclude refundable deposit of RM100). Your deposit will be refunded upon return of your device in good working condition)
  • We only have 20 units for rent on first-come first-serve basis. Book your unit during registration
  • We will reach out to you to advise on the collection of the device if you managed to book successfully.
What do I do in case of emergency?

Press the Function Button for 3 secs, your location coordinate will automatically be sent via SMS to the Race coordinator. This will trigger an investigation from the race Safety Team. Search & rescue effort will be activated if required. DO NOT execute this SOS function unless you are in real distress situation. Note:
  • SMS will not be able to be sent if you are outside the mobile provider coverage area. The device is using Maxis SIM card.
  • Always keep your device ON with line of sight to the open sky. In the event that you are outside network coverage, the race organizer will be able to obtain your last known location to narrow down the search area.
Terms & Conditions
  • While GPS RunTracker allows you to initiate a SOS SMS and provide your location coordinate, it is NOT a safety device. All participants are advised to have proper training before the race and make all necessary preparation during the race for your own safety.
  • Our team takes elaborate effort to test the device and charge the battery fully prior to race day. Please check the unit carefully when it is handed to you. We will not be responsible for any technical failure of the unit.
General
  1. You must obey the instructions of the event marshals at all times.
  2. If you miss the cut-off time for your category, you must withdraw from the race as instructed.
  3. Littering is strictly prohibited. Any runner seen littering along the route will be penalized. ​
  4. Damaging or disturbing any flora or fauna is strictly prohibited.
  5. Doping or use of drugs is strictly prohibited.
  6. Breaking any of the rules mentioned may incur a time penalty or disqualification. Any such penalties are at the race organisers discretion and are final.
  7. The organisers reserve the right to make changes to the event rules and requirements, route or other arrangements as they deem appropriate.
  8. Participants must provide true and accurate information to the organisers. Any wilful dishonesty may render a participant's entry invalid and the organisers reserve the right to amend or cancel such participant's entry without compensation. ​
The rules and regulations of the Route 68 Endurance Challenge is designed to safeguard the safety of all runners, volunteers and organizers as well as to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible during and after the race day with minimal disruptions. It is the runners’ responsibilities to read and understand the set of rules listed below. Failure to adhere to these rules may result in the disqualification of the runner.

  • SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: ​On the route from Gombak - Bentong, you are required on run on the LEFT side of the road. On the route from Bentong - Gombak, you will run on the RIGHT side of the road. Kindly adhere to this instruction for your own safety.
  • Equipment: All runners must carry all mandatory gears at all times. Race officials have the right to perform random gear checks on any participants at any point of the race. Should a runner be found without the possession of a mandatory gear, he/she will not be allowed to continue on the course and will be DISQUALIFIED (DQ) from the race.
  • Mandatory gear use: 6.00am - 8.00am mandatory to wear your reflective vest, switch on your blinker attached to your back and run with your headlamp on. After 8.00am you may remove and keep your reflective vest, blinker and headlamp in your bag/pouch. Use when visibility is poor due to thunderstorm or cloudy conditions. All mandatory items MUST be carried at all times by yourself even when not in use.
  • Cut-off times: Cut-off times will be strictly enforced throughout the race. Runners must check out from a water station before the designated cut-off time of the station. All decisions by race officials are final and non-negotiable.
  • No short-cutting: All runners must follow the marked path along the race course without taking any shortcuts (unless instructed by the volunteers). Any runners caught violating this rule by taking a shortcut or hopping on a vehicle will be DISQUALIFIED (DQ).
  • Support Crew for 202km & 168km : Maximum 1 vehicle and maximum 3 support crew for 202km & 168km participants only.
  • No pacers allowed: Strictly no ‘unofficial pacers’ are allowed throughout the entire race. If you’re caught with a pacer (either on foot or on any vehicles) you will be DISQUALIFIED (DQ) except for 168km category.
  • No unauthorized aid stations: To ensure race fairness to all runners, no unauthorized aid stations should be set up by anyone throughout the race course. We welcome all supporters to setup their aid stations at all the designated water stations. Thank you for supporting the runners along their grueling journey.
  • Do not litter: Kindly carry your trash and dispose them at the bins provided at each waterstation.
  • Road use and crossing: There will be no road closure for this race. There will be vehicles using the same road as you during the race. Please be courteous to the other vehicles and let them pass through before continuing your journey. Always run on the shoulder on the road and BECAREFUL of fast approaching vehicles. You are responsible for your own safe-being on the race course.
  • Instructions from volunteers: At certain points of the race, volunteers may redirect you from the race course for safety purposes. Always follow the instructions of the volunteers to avoid untoward incidence.
  • Runners are classified as the following
    1. Any runner who dropped out of the race: Did Not Finish (DNF)
    2. Any runner who missed the cut-off of a waterstation: Did Not Finish (DNF)
    3. Any runner who registered and not start the race: Did Not Start (DNS)​​

Medical Assistance During The Race
  • In order to ensure race safety, race organizer will prepare and arrange for rescue and medical assistance during the race.
  • Race organizer has purchased Public Liability Insurance for this event, it is strongly recommended that the runners have obtained an adequate Personal Medical Insurance coverage.
  • If necessary, and in the interests of the person being rescued, at the exclusive discretion of the organizers, the official medical rescue services may be called upon to take over operations, using any means they consider appropriate, including an ambulance. Any costs deriving from such exceptional transport will be charged to the person who has been rescued.
  • The Medic Team are authorized to withdraw any runners that they consider as unfit, The runner bib will be removed as part of the DNF (Did Not Finish) procedures.
  • Depending on your condition, an emergency evacuation may be required. This evacuation will be at the expense of the person being rescued. For overseas racers, it is strongly recommended that you obtain adequate travel insurance coverage​
Runners Responsibilities
  • You understand the unique nature and requirements of competing in an ultra-long distance running race. You will be running all day and have undertaken the necessary training to compete in such a race.
  • You will be responsible for yourself and have the ability to deal with any problems that may be encountered during the race.
  • You are able to deal with, on your own without assistance, deteriorating weather conditions (raining, strong winds) and other troubles expected when traveling across road.
  • You are able to deal with extreme fatigue, internal organ and digestive problems, muscle pain, mild physical injuries and psychological problems on your own.
  • You are fully aware that when participating in an outdoor activity such as this race, your safety depends on your own skills and abilities.
Additional Info
  • Race bib must be worn and visible in front of runner at all times.
  • We do not condone and allow unofficial bib exchange or selling. All winner will be verified with the original IC or passport
  • Race directors reserves the right to cancel the race in the event of natural disasters or extreme weather, including (not limited to) haze. thunderstorm, landslide
