We are proud to announce the 3rd edition ultramarathon in Malaysia for 2017 Route 68 Challenge. This race course traverses through the beautiful and scenic landscape of remote Gombak. The route will start and end at an orang asli settlement, winding through hilly roads surrounded by lush green forests - promising to bring you some of the most unique ultramarathon race experience. Runners challenging this exciting new road race will come face to face against a formidable route with an elevation gain of 1,900 m and a competitive cut off time.

The race is open to all men and women of all nationalities aged 18 years and above on race day.

Runners DO NOT need to complete any road race prior to joining this event. However, the organizers would like to caution all participants that an ultramarathon is not easy, and recommends that you should have completed some long distance road races in order to be well prepared for this event.​
All runners will start and finish at Dewan Serbaguna Komuniti Orang Asli (Orang Asli Community Multi Purpose Hall) at Km. 24 Gombak.

For Endurance (70km) runners, you will make your way through 7 waterstations before U-turning at waterstation A7 located in Bentong Hot Springs, covering approximately 35km one way. You will then take the same route back towards the Multi Purpose Hall and finish the race there. Total elevation for Endurance runners is about 1900m gain.

For Challenge (50km) runners, you will use the same route as the Endurance runners making your way through 5 waterstations before U-turning at waterstation A5, covering approximately 25km one way. You will then take the same route back towards the Multi Purpose Hall and finish the race there. Total elevation for Challenge runners is about 1700m gain.

You have to cross the finish line within your respective categories' cut off time to be a finisher of the race.

We urge all participants to use this bus transport service as we expect heavy build-up of traffic on race day due to:
  • Single lane roads leading into race site
  • Parking spaces limited to approximately 50-100 cars at the site

Kindly note that the bus leaves the race site back to NU Sentral once it fills up and departure time may vary with the crowd we have this year. Do check with the Race Secretariat counter for update on departure times during race day.

RULES & REGULATIONS

The rules and regulations of the Route 68 Endurance Challenge is designed to safeguard the safety of all runners, volunteers and organizers as well as to ensure the event runs as smoothly as possible during and after the race day with minimal disruptions. It is the runners’ responsibilities to read and understand the set of rules listed below. Failure to adhere to these rules may result in the disqualification of the runner.
  • SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: ​On the route from Gombak - Bentong, you are required on run on the LEFT side of the road. On the route from Bentong - Gombak, you will run on the RIGHT side of the road. Kindly adhere to this instruction for your own safety.
  • Equipment: All runners must carry all mandatory gears at all times. Race officials have the right to perform random gear checks on any participants at any point of the race. Should a runner be found without the possession of a mandatory gear, he/she will not be allowed to continue on the course and will be DISQUALIFIED (DQ) from the race.
  • Mandatory gear use: 6.00am - 8.00am mandatory to wear your reflective vest, switch on your blinker attached to your back and run with your headlamp on. After 8.00am you may remove and keep your reflective vest, blinker and headlamp in your bag/pouch. Use when visibility is poor due to thunderstorm or cloudy conditions. All mandatory items MUST be carried at all times by yourself even when not in use.
  • Cut-off times: Cut-off times will be strictly enforced throughout the race. Runners must check out from a water station before the designated cut-off time of the station. All decisions by race officials are final and non-negotiable.
  • No short-cutting: All runners must follow the marked path along the race course without taking any shortcuts (unless instructed by the volunteers). Any runners caught violating this rule by taking a shortcut or hopping on a vehicle will be DISQUALIFIED (DQ).
  • No pacers allowed: Any runner without an officially issued race bib is considered as an ‘unofficial pacer’. Strictly no ‘unofficial pacers’ are allowed throughout the entire race. If you’re caught with a pacer (either on foot or on any vehicles) you will be DISQUALIFIED (DQ). If you received aid in the form of water or food by non-race officials to circumvent the rules of carrying your own hydration/nutrition you will be DISQUALIFIED (DQ)
  • No unauthorized aid stations: To ensure race fairness to all runners, no unauthorized aid stations or aid vehicles should be set up by anyone throughout the race course. We welcome all supporters to setup their aid stations at all the designated water stations. Thank you for supporting the runners along their grueling journey.
  • Do not litter: Kindly carry your trash and dispose them at the bins provided at each waterstation.
  • Road use and crossing: There will be no road closure for this race. There will be vehicles using the same road as you during the race. Please be courteous to the other vehicles and let them pass through before continuing your journey. Always run on the shoulder on the road and BECAREFUL of fast approaching vehicles. You are responsible for your own safe-being on the race course.
  • Instructions from volunteers: At certain points of the race, volunteers may redirect you from the race course for safety purposes. Always follow the instructions of the volunteers to avoid untoward incidence.
  • Runners are classified as the following
    1. Any runner who dropped out of the race: Did Not Finish (DNF)
    2. Any runner who missed the cut-off of a waterstation: Did Not Finish (DNF)
    3. Any runner who registered and not start the race: Did Not Start (DNS)​​

Medical Assistance During The Race

  • In order to ensure race safety, race headquarters will prepare and arrange for rescue and medical assistance during the race.
  • Doctors and rescue staff have the authority to stop a racer from continuing the race. This will be done by taking off the racer's bib.
  • Depending on your condition, an emergency evacuation may be required. This evacuation will be at the expense of the person being rescued. For overseas racers, it is strongly recommended that you obtain adequate travel insurance coverage​.

Runners responsibilities

  • You understand the unique nature and requirements of competing in an ultra-long distance running race. You will be running all day and have undertaken the necessary training to compete in such a race.
  • You will be responsible for yourself and have the ability to deal with any problems that may be encountered during the race.
  • You are able to deal with, on your own without assistance, deteriorating weather conditions (raining, strong winds) and other troubles expected when traveling across road.
  • You are able to deal with extreme fatigue, internal organ and digestive problems, muscle pain, mild physical injuries and psychological problems on your own.
  • You are fully aware that when participating in an outdoor activity such as this race, your safety depends on your own skills and abilities.

  • Race bib must be worn and visible in front of runner at all times.
  • We do not condone and allow unofficial bib exchange or selling. All winner will be verified with the original IC or passport.
  • Race directors reserves the right to cancel the race in the event of natural disasters or extreme weather, including (not limited to) haze. thunderstorm, landslide.
